Privacy Policy

Countries (“the app”, “we”, “us”) helps you track the countries you visit and your Schengen 90/180 days. Countries is private by default: your travel history stays on your device and in your own iCloud. This policy explains the little we process and why.

The short version

• We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or contacts.
• Your trips, dates, notes, and settings are stored on your device and, if you turn on iCloud, in your private iCloud account (Apple). We cannot see them.
• Location is used only on your device to detect which country you’re in. Your coordinates are never sent to us.
• We use anonymous analytics and crash reports to keep the app stable. They contain no information that identifies you.

Information stored on your device

The countries and trips you record, dates, notes, and your preferences are stored locally using Apple’s on-device database. If you enable iCloud sync, this data is stored in your private iCloud and synced across your devices by Apple. We have no access to your iCloud data. Location

If you turn on Auto Check-in, Countries uses your location on your device to recognise when you enter a new country and log the visit automatically. This happens locally on iPhone. Your precise location and coordinates are never transmitted to us or to any third party. You can turn Auto Check-in off at any time in iOS Settings.

Photos

If you use “Import from Photos”, Countries reads only the date and location metadata of your photos — never the photos themselves — to detect past trips. This runs on your device; no photo or metadata is uploaded to us.

Information processed by service providers

To run the app we use a few processors. They receive only what’s described below — never your travel history, locations, or contact details.

• Analytics & crash reporting — Google Firebase (Analytics & Crashlytics). Anonymous, aggregated app-usage and crash diagnostics (e.g. device model, OS version, app version, screens viewed, crash logs). We pass no user identifier. Used only to fix bugs and improve the app.
• Anonymous activity log — our server. Basic, non-identifying events (e.g. “Trip added”) with device model, OS, and app version only. No user or device identifiers are attached, and no country names or locations are included.
• Purchases — RevenueCat & Apple. If you buy a subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple and managed via RevenueCat using a random, app-generated ID — not your name or email — so we can unlock and restore your subscription. Payment is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your card details.

We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising.

Notifications

With your permission, Countries schedules local notifications on your device (e.g. arrival alerts and Schengen warnings). They are generated on-device and are not sent through our servers.

Children

Countries is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Your choices

• Turn Auto Check-in / location off in iOS Settings → Countries → Location.
• Disable iCloud sync in the app’s settings.
• Delete any trip or all app data at any time within the app, or by deleting the app.
• Limit analytics sharing in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “Last updated” date.
